Benefits that Continue Delivering

The cryogenic process transforms the molecular structure of the tool or component. The benefits of cryogenic treatment never diminish, so tools keep performing after repeat machining.

Advantages of Cryogenic Treatment

We lower the temperature of the products or tools to a precise temperature in a bath of liquid nitrogen and then slowly heat the parts to finish the transformation.

Liquid nitrogen is used to lower the temperature inside the chamber to -300°F (-184°C), without contacting the part.

  • Improves wear properties for extended part life
  • Reduces replacement costs and downtime
  • Reduces friction and surface roughness
  • Enables easier machining to tighter tolerances
  • Increases dimensional stability on critical components
  • Reduces stress fracturing

FAQs

The cryogenic tooling treatment, or metal hardening, process uses low-temperature cooling to change the molecular structure of machine tools to mitigate the wear and extend their expected life span.

Cutting tools are cooled to sub-zero temperatures using liquid nitrogen to modify them at a molecular level to enhance physical and mechanical properties.

The Advantages of Cryogenic Tool Treatments include:

  • Improving wear properties for extended part life
  • Reducing replacement costs and downtime
  • Reducing friction and surface roughness
  • Enabling easier machining to tighter tolerances
  • Increasing dimensional stability on critical components
  • Reduce stress fracturing
